Custom Technology & Market Briefing 2:
MEMS microphones and micro-speakers market
MEMS microphones have entered the marketplace late in 2003 and
already realised a $ 56 million turnover in 2005. Over the next few
years, we expect an annual growth by 62%, driven by the mobile phones
and laptops. By 2010, the overall market will be worth $680 million,
predominantly for mobile phones, notebooks, digital cameras,
camcorders, PDAs and other appliances such as dictation recorders.
There will be modest penetration of automotive markets, leveraging
arrays of microphones to allow noise suppression in hands-free
speakerphones, for example. Hearing aids are challenging to produce,
e.g. have a very low noise floor, and will remain a small market.
Core part of the briefing
- Technical overview: MEMS microphones and micro-speakers in comparison with conventional technologies
- Applications in detail today and in 2012

- Challenges and opportunities:
- How to meet price requirements and compete against ECM (Electret Condenser Microphone)
- Opportunities with acoustic modules
- Key players, latest developments
- Market forecasts, detailed by application
Principle of the custom market briefing
- You prepare your specific questions in advance (techniques and economics)
- We build on our existing knowledge and carry out additional specific
research to answer your strategic questions (3 to 4 weeks)
- We present and discuss the result in a custom briefing at WTC in Munich, at your company or in a teleconference
